Greiner Engineering/URS

Position Title: Branch Manager, Civil Engineering

Client Company: URS, formerly Greiner Engineering

Job Scope: This search was unique in that Greiner Engineering had grown by acquisition of regional engineering companies across the nation that had many diverse cultures. They had bought a regional firm in the San Francisco Bay area and had been having difficulty getting the former owner who was now the regional manager to conform to their corporate standards and policies. During a meeting with the chairman over lunch, he shared his challenges to which I suggested we find someone that would be loyal to corporate to take charge of the six offices in the Bay area and turn them around. He agreed that what he needed was someone with leadership authority who was an experienced degreed civil engineer to gain control over the six offices.

Candidate Placement: We successfully placed a former Army Captain, graduate of West Point in Civil Engineering with extensive relevant experience. He brought with him leadership training and experience commanding large groups of engineers. After landing in the Bay Area, it took him approximately six weeks to completely turn around all those offices and take command. Greiner had no more difficulty with the six San Francisco Bay offices.
