Position Title: Branch Manager

Job Scope: Karins Engineering is a structural engineering firm and provider of structural, forensic, new building, restoration, and design engineering solutions, focused on creating elegantly engineered solutions for complicated architectural problems. They have eight offices in Florida and 20 years of global experience with expertise ranging from restoration services, building envelopes, and government properties to reserve studies, forensics, and structural engineering design.

The Daytona Beach office of Karins Engineering was looking for a Professional Engineer to manage the day-to-day operations of Karins Engineering’s local branch. The Branch Manager would work collaboratively with the executive team of the firm, who are responsible for establishing company policy. The Branch Manager would be responsible for managing the capacity vs. demand for the engineering and drafting resources of the group(s), including measuring, achieving, and reporting on budget and schedule of group tasks.

The Branch Manager would interact with human resources, business development, IT, and administration personnel. The position required leadership and management expertise and background.

Candidate Placement: White Hat Executive Search successfully placed a registered Professional Engineer with over 21 years of experience in the engineering and construction industry with commercial, residential, and infrastructure projects. He held degrees including a Ph.D. in Materials Science, Master of Science in Management, Master in Materials Science, and a Bachelor of Civil Engineering plus specialist certifications as an Audit and Forensic Engineer and a Structural Engineer. His skills included budgeting and cost control, leadership, risk management and negotiation, critical thinking and problem solving, scheduling and time management, technical engineering expertise, team building and management, vertical and horizontal construction experience, and an organization and planning background.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Take Responsible Charge of work produced by the Branch
  • Provide direct supervision of technical work by employees
  • Implement and administer company policies for Branch employees
  • Budgeting, billing review/ invoicing, project budget review
  • Staff management, staff productivity and training
  • Collaborate with President to create branch strategic plan including annual budget for income and general expense categories.
  • Participate in relationship building with potential clients and other industry networks
  • Identify and pursue business development opportunities for the Branch
  • Develop 1-, 5- and 10-year plans for the company’s structural engineering design capacity evolution in cooperation with the President, VP of Engineering and other members of the Executive Committee as appropriate.

Skills, Qualifications & Competencies:

  • PE License preferred
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines
  • Ability to work as part of and lead a team
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deliverables simultaneously
  • BS or MS degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university preferred
  • Five or more years of relevant leadership experience
